  • Mark Neilan

    Mark is the owner of Excel Fitness center. He has an exceptional background in physical therapy and personal training. As a graduate of Blair Academy and The College of New Jersey, Mark was well prepared to enter graduate school. He graduated with a Master's Degree of Physical Therapy from the University of Saint Augustine in 2000 and was soon employed by Morris Area Rehabilitation Association (MARA) as a physical therapist. He was quickly promoted to Clinical Director. While Mark enjoyed working with rehabilitation patients, he wanted to work with people on injury prevention and maintaining fitness. He became certified as a personal trainer through the National Council for Sports Medicine Education and began working part-time as a personal trainer at the Total Wellness Center in Bernardsville in 2001. In 2003, he left MARA to work full-time as the Director of Personal Training at the Total Wellness Center. After two successful years as director, Mark decided to open his own business, Excel Fitness Center, in Bernardsville, New Jersey. While training takes up much of his free time, Mark also dedicated time to further his education. He graduated in May 2006 from Temple University with his doctorate in Physical Therapy. Mark is a certified Crossfit coach and Senior Strength Trainer through the IWA (International Weightlifting Association).

    Mark's clients are inspired by his dedication to his own fitness. He has competed in eighteen marathons with a personal best of 2:50:09, a team triathlon, and numerous 5K runs. He also competed in and finished Jesse Itzler's Hell on the Hill race twice to date. In HOTH 3 Mark finished 2nd overall and in HOTH 4 Mark finished 3rd overall with a 20 lb. weight vest on. This past fall at 29zero29, Mark was first to complete the event in 15 hours and 1 minute. He followed that event up with a first place finish in the competitive division at the 2017 Spartan Vernon Super Race. Over the past 6 years Mark and his staff at Excel Fitness Center have raised over $300,000 for the Semper Fi Fund.

  • Kristi Kilhullen

    Kristi obtained her Master Personal Training and Massage Therapy certifications at the National Personal Training Institute in Orlando Florida. Her studies have included Biomechanics, Anatomy, Physiology, and Nutrition. After graduating in 2005 she joined the Excel Fitness Center Team and continued her education at the Swedish Institute of Massage in NYC from where she received her certification in Advance Sports Massage Therapy in July of 2009. Kristi has continued her education with a wide variety of continuing education courses and seminars ranging from The Institute of Integrative Nutrition as a certified Health Coach in 2015, Functional Training, Back to Golf, Spinning, and completing her Spartan SGX Coach Certification in 2017. In October of 2008 Kristi started competing as a Pro Figure Competitor in the USBF then 2009 competed with WNBF. Placing 1st in many shows such as the Empire Bodybuilding and Figure Championship. Kristi has done over 15 shows in 3 years. During those years she ran many 5k’s, ½ Marathons, and Full Marathons. In 2011, Kristi ran her first sub-four-hour marathon at the Marine Corp Marathon. In her free time Kristi continues to push herself as an athlete training for intense Obstacle Course and endurance races. She loves working with kids and adults of all ages.

  • Kara Kowalczuk

    Kara obtained her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology at Rutgers University. Her studies included Anatomy & Physiology, Neuromechanical Kinesiology, and Health & Nutrition. Throughout college, Kara dove into the physical therapy world attempting to absorb as much knowledge as possible. She found her niche training post-rehab clients to ensure balance throughout the body and easing transitions back to an active lifestyle. Kara enjoys working with clients to establish healthy joint mobility, muscular strength, and healthy habits. Kara became a Licensed Massage Therapist attained from Therapeutic Massage & Training Center in 2017. She specializes in deep tissue mobilization and sports massage. In June 2018, Kara achieved her Level 1 NeuroKinetic Therapy certification, which has to do with correcting compensation patterns in the body using certain manual muscle tests. Keeping a healthy, active lifestyle is one of Kara's true passions. She enjoys hot yoga, crossfit-style training, and outdoor runs. In her free time, Kara enjoys going down the shore, going for hikes with her goldendoodle "Ollie", and spending time with her family and friends.
